Watch those gas pumps; prices expected to fall

Asspociated Press -- Gasoline prices have been falling for weeks, and they could go even lower as autumn's leaves begin to drop.

The national average for a gallon of unleaded regular was $2.681 on Friday, according to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service. That's 6.6 cents lower than a month ago and 8.5 cents higher than a year ago.

The national average has stayed below $3 a gallon for nearly two years, and most analysts think it won't return to that level anytime soon.

"We've got gasoline supplies moving higher rather than lower so until we get unemployment down, you're just not going to see much of an increase in gasoline demand," said Jim Ritterbusch, president of energy consultancy Ritterbusch and Associates.

It boggles my mind why oil prices can't remain at one price until a "significant event" happens. Sort of like the price of other consumable goods (food, medicine, toilet paper or even your rent check...). OH that's right, it would put a lot of people out of work (speculators, investors, journalists, ....).

"I wouldn't mind if gasoline would go below $2.50 per gallon."

I would be satisfied if gas was $2.50 a gallon. Unfortunately we just saw another price jump and gas is in the area of $2.85

Prices are going down in the low price stations here in NJ. Earl did not raise them, nor are the Labor Day Weekend travlelers.

The higher priced stations are still a little sluggish in reducing prices. What else is new.

Good article. Gasoline remains overpriced and consumers continue to consume.

I truly believe the average price will continuing falling as many stations are catching up when they do their inventories, however with the future prices have been stable, I don't expect the low prices, e.g. city-low, will change much.
