It's strange that I can buy Canadian fuel here in California cheaper than I can buy it for at home in Canada.

This can only help meet the fuel needs if they have oil to pump through it!

It would be great if they also moved further west to Ontario/Welland and Buffalo. Maybe our prices in this corner of the state would be more in line with the rest of the Great Lakes.

A stationary pipeline is a lot safer for the environment than constantly shipping liquid fuel via train and truck.
There's less traffic pressure on the roads, less potential for catastrophic releases during accidents, and less opportunity for minor leaks in populated areas. Also, less potential for vapor releases from tank trucks or railcars.
Once built, transportation costs are also going to be lower, AND less subject to inclement weather.

The pipe line wioll reduce transportation costs of getting product to Montreal, thus increasing profits. Nothing is being done to increase capacity so prices will probably go up.

Awesome. Now we need new storage to put all this oil in, for a time somewhere in the future when we make it out of this recession.

Aren't these the same ones saying they had to close down refineries because there was not enough profit? LOL. (In this case this means lies on lies!)

There must be a cost advantage to spend all that money for a pipeline when the trucks/trains are already in place.

I though Valero Energy was primarily a refiner and marketer of petroleum products, not so much a producer? (downstream..)

The Canadians better check to see if Valero has the money since they paid their CEO 10 million dollars in compensation.
